High-brightness colour TFT displays and polariser touch panels

If a standard colour TFT is simply too dim for use in your equipment then why not try one of our latest high-brightness products. The displays shown in the table below range in physical sizes from 6.4" to 12.1" diagonal, with resolutions up to 1024*RGB*768 pixels, and include a white LED backlight for maximum efficiency.

If you need display and touch panel solutions for applications that require excellent sunlight readability then reflections are the real problem.

As shown in the diagram below, a resistive touch panel has four surfaces that reflect light back to the user (R1 through R4). A surface reflects light when there is a difference in the refractive index of the material versus air. In a touch panel which is not enhanced, the amount of incident light reflected by each surface is approximately 4%, 7%, 7% & 4% respectively, totaling 22%. The surface of an untreated LCD (R5) can also reflect about 4% of the light, giving a grand total of around 26%. If the touch panel is being used in ambient light of 30,000 lux (moderate sunlight), the amount of light reflected back to the user is about 2500 cd/m2 which is normally greater than the luminance of the LCD itself. In extreme cases, this results in the effective contrast ratio of the display being reduced almost to 1.0, thereby making it unreadable.

Our highly transmissive circular polariser touch panels are made for direct sunlight conditions and achieve a 76% transmissivity rate. They come in a range of standard sizes or can be fully customised to suit your specific requirements.

By combining circular polariser technology with anti-reflection coatings, total touch panel reflections (R1 through R4) can be reduced to less than 1%.

If you require further details on any of the above, or would like to see demo units and perhaps obtain samples, then our sales team would be happy to help with your enquiry.
